A Cambuslang tennis club are celebrating after landing another cash grant to help their ongoing refurbishment.

Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club have been awarded £30,602 in funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.

The cash, part of the club’s ongoing Blaes to Glory campaign, will see all of the club’s existing fencing replaced.

Club president Jacqueline Clark believes that the move will help encourage more people to try out the sport.

She said: “This grant from Viridor Credits will allow us to replace all our fencing at the club.

“It has rapidly deteriorated in condition in recent years and we have been patching it as much as possible to allow us to continue with our growth of the club.

“It has now reached crisis point and this funding will provide essential new fencing to ensure that our tennis balls are more likely to remain on court, and keep our members and neighbours safe.

“We will now be able to continue our ongoing redevelopment of the facility and increase our number of users.

“Our coaching programme starts again after Easter and it’s a great time to get involved.”

The group recently had donations from the SUEZ Communities Trust and from WREN’S FCC Scottish Action Fund, helping bring in new floodlights and converting their blaes courts to all weather ones.

The Landfill Communities Fund sees landfill operators donate a percentage of their tax liability to an approved body, with the money then paid into local communities.
