Chloe’s precious locks chopped

Ten-year-old raises cash for The Little Princess Trust

- Murray Spooner

A plucky 10-year-old girl has raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity by chopping off her lovely locks.

Little Chloe Neale made the bighearted decision to donate the hair to The Little Princess Trust.

The youngster wanted to raise money as well, and in just a few weeks has received a magnificent £300, which, along with her hair, will also go to the charity.

Her proud mum Karen Park admitted Chloe had a constant struggle brushing and combing her long hair in the mornings.

But she was surprised when her daughter plucked up the courage to have only her second-ever hair cut after months of refusal.

Karen, of Aikenhead Road, Toryglen, told the Reformer: “Chloe had hair which was down to her bottom and had only been cut once in her life.

“She struggled daily to have it brushed and we had spoke about cutting it a fair bit, but she had always refused.

“But then, out of the blue, she announced that she wanted to get it cut.

“We’ve tried using several bobbles to help her but she decided enough was enough.

“It was a really big thing for her but she was really excited.”

The Little Princess Trust gives away free real-hair wigs to children that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other illnesses, and also funds research into childhood cancers.

And through Karen’s work at the children’s cancer unit in Glasgow, Chloe is aware first-hand of those who may benefit from her donation.

Karen explained: “I work as a nurse so Chloe knows about the kids there and likes to pop in and see them from time to time.

“She knows that some of them need these wigs and how important they are.

“She has raised £300 so far but we are looking to raise as much money as possible.”

Chloe would like to say a big thank you to Sam’s Salon on Cathcart Road for her new look.
