Getting into the groove can be real life-changer

Dance class to help

- Jonathan Geddes

New dance classes in Newton can help teach youngsters about healthy living and boost their confidence.

Daryl Robertson has set up the weekly sessions at the Newton Wing Community hub with the aim of helping youngsters get healthy, both physically and mentally.

She told the Reformer: “I have personally experienced a massive improvement in my confidence through dance.

“I was a very shy, reserved little girl who didn’t have much confidence, however through dancing regularly I gained great skills such as team-building, creativity, motivation, determination and self belief.”

A dancer since she was a child, Daryl achieved an honours degree in dance from the Performing Arts School of Scotland, and she has competed in dance contests throughout both Britain and America.

She also took part in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014, and she is enthusiastic about what her school, called Dance Supreme, can achieve.

Daryl added: “I feel combining dance training with lessons and guidance in making healthier day to day choices towards eating and exercising is massively beneficial.

“I not only deliver dance lessons to my dancers, I also offer advice and teach them the importance of proper nutrition. In the near future, I plan on holding workshops with personal trainers/ dieticians for my dancers and their families.”

The Dance Supreme classes are held every Thursday at 7pm and Friday at 6.30pm.

Anyone interested in the classes should contact Daryl on dancesupreme@outlook.com or by searching for Dance Supreme on Facebook or Instagram.
