Rutherglen Reformer

LONDON CALLING

- Jonathan Geddes

Rutherglen’s running woman is getting ready for her biggest test yet on Sunday.

The Reformer told last month how Elizabeth Holmes was taking part in this year’s London marathon to raise money for the Healthy N’ Happy charity, where she works as a team leader.

With the day rapidly approaching the 26-year-old is hoping for one last push to reach her fundraising target, ahead of taking on the 26-mile challenge.

She said: “I am pretty tired and my body is sore but I know I can do it.

“I’m starting to get really nervous and excited.

“I have reached over 50 per cent of my fundraising target too so really hoping to get a big push the next week or so.”

Elizabeth, who has taken part in four marathons before, is hopeful of some extra motivation on Sunday, as she has asked her pals to come up with the right tunes to keep her spirits high.

She added: “I have asked my friends, family and everyone involved at Healthy N’ Happy to give me a song for my marathon on the playlist on the day to help motivate me.

“Training had been going well the last few weeks and I did my last long run of 19 miles last weekend and now I’m tapering off and trying to rest and eat well.

“My colleague Jan Taylor is my ‘work mum’ and is making my lunch every day next week to make sure I get enough protein and carbs.”

A host of local businesses have already backed Elizabeth’s efforts to raise money for the community development trust, which runs the likes of Camglen Radio and Biketown.

She is aiming for £2500, and currently has raised over £1,300.
