families. Children who benefit from free school lunches often miss meals and go hungry once their school closes for the holidays.

“The lunch clubs will last for four hours and include activities such as various sports, arts and crafts and reading for pleasure.

“Lunch will be served at some point during the four-hour period depending on the activities.

“The three primary schools where the pilot will be based are Udston and Glenlee Primary Schools in Hamilton and St Anthony’s in Rutherglen.

“The aim is to create a hub arrangement where children from all schools in the local area would congregate in one place.”

Ms Donaldson added: “Once the pilot is complete, the results will be reported back to committee and allow proposals to be formed on whether it is appropriate to provide the service in all schools.”

Key to the feedback will be the response from parents and children.

The cost of the pilot would include a youth worker, on a oneyear fixed term contract, plus 12 youth group workers for July and August.
