Rutherglen club boxers experienced a mix of emotions at a Glasgow boxing home show.

Stephen James Mullen, of Durie’s ABC, claimed his third victory in a row after defeating the host’s, Bellahouston ABC, boxer, Danny Lyness on April 13.

The 69kg fighter was the more aggressive, cutting his opponent off in the ring and catching him with good over hand rights and left hooks .

All heads turned to the judges who awarded Stephen the win by 3-2 split decision.

Durie’s Euan Caldwell, 44kgs, lost by a unanimous decision to Noble Art member Michael McCrone.

His head coach Archie Durie commented:“It was a good learning bout for Euan who didn’t get the nod on the night. But they will no doubt meet again somewhere and Euan’s chance shall come again.”

Brandon Grant’s original opponent pulled out two hours before the medical and weigh in and coach Archie managed to get a last minute stand in.

Mathew Gemmill, of Barrhead ABC, stepped into the ring for the exhibition match and both boys put on a fine display of boxing.

This week Durie’s took several boxers through to Edinburgh for a night’s sparring at Alex Arthur’s gym on April 18.
