Sturgeon praise for Clyde Gateway work
Hails achievements
The First Minister has lavished praise on the work of Clyde Gateway in Rutherglen, saying they have worked on “remarkable achievements”.
However, she has also told the Reformer that there is still work to be done.
Nicola Sturgeon was speaking ahead of the upcoming Travelling Cabinet in Dalmarnock, which will take place at the Emirates Arena and will mark 10 years of the Clyde Gateway regeneration project that impacts both Rutherglen and the East End of Glasgow.
She said: “Now halfway through their original 20 year plan, it is fair to say Clyde Gateway have some remarkable achievements behind them, which they are rightly proud of.
“However, there is much still to be done.”
The First Minister singled out some of the project’s Rutherglen achievements.
She added: “Supported by the Scottish Government, Clyde Gateway have to date invested over £71 million in South Lanarkshire - delivering improvements to community spaces, delivery of business properties and infrastructure, such as One Rutherglen Links.
“They also completed the remediation of land at Shawfield, which will become a new business park, bringing more new jobs and investment to the area.
“And they have helped to create Cuningar Loop Woodland Park, now a popular destination for local families and residents and have worked closely with the Healthy n Happy community Development Trust to redevelop the Aspire Building, from where the charity continues providing vital services to the residents.”
The Travelling Cabinet will meet at the Emirates Arena next Monday, and they will visit Clyde Gateway projects during the day.
