Thought for the Week

-

Through my work in the community I hear of many people struggling, financially and emotionally. I hear how some people try and do everything themselves, try to look the part, play the part, keeping their head in the sand hoping everything will be ok, whilst others reach out and ask for help.

The first group takes out high interest loans to pay for holidays, gaming equipment or televisions. They turn down any sort of help for fear of ‘losing face’, they smile on Facebook, but are crying inside.

The second looks to the community to fill the gap, and are grateful for anything. In the bible it says ‘Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?’ Matthew 6 v 26. The bible also says ‘ask and it shall be given to you’, Matthew 7v7.

God provides for the weakest animals, he will provide for us. He wants us to talk to him and tell him what we need.

We have to stop trying so hard with unnecessary things, and put our time, energy and effort in to the important things. That is to love and care for each other, provide for and support one another.

Let’s all put the screens down and talk to each other, let’s have a conversation over a coffee not using emojis!

Can we be honest with each other, open up and share the stresses and frustrations? Can we stop reaching beyond our means, causing unnecessary stress in the long run?

Let’s stop, slow down, be honest and keep things simple.
