Meadow loss won’t rule Glens out

-

Willie Harvey was still feeling optimistic about his side’s chances of going up despite suffering a blow away to Irvine.

The Glens’ 3-1 defeat in Ayrshire on Wednesday all but ended their chances of automatic promotion.

However, Harvey is confident his side can claim a play-off position with two games to go. The manager blamed a slow start to a disrupted pre-match routine as Meadow took a 2-0 lead into half-time.

Jamie Hamilton pulled one back as Glens dominated the second half but David MacKay’s effort in added time killed all hopes of a comeback.

Harvey said: “It as disappointing it took so long to get into the game. But after 35 minutes we dominated it.

“We were still waiting on players 15 minutes from kick off trying to get to the ground but that’s the nature of the league and Medda had a good half hours’ warm up.

“The defence didn’t cover themselves in glory with the two goals but after some words at half-time they turned up and dominated their forwards and won everything.

“We had so many chances and Gary Smith goes close with a spectacular overhead kick and we all thought it was in until the keeper makes a great save. Then they’ve got the third goal because we were trying to get that equaliser.

“It’s annoying because it ruins our chances of automatic promotion but the play-offs are still in our own hands.

“We hope the players can rise to it, because they know they are capable of beating Irvine and can go and beat Troon. It’s a good park which will suit us. These next two games are two cup finals.”
