McColl: Wee Gers are ready for their WoS Cup challenge

-

Cambuslang Rangers have nothing to fear against cup holders Pollok despite losing 4-0 to them last month.

That is the message manager Paul McColl is sending to his high-flying players, who have won their last four league matches to earn their third successive promotion.

Next up is premier league outfit Pollok in the West of Scotland Cup on Monday, June 4.

Pollok are also on a strong run of form, recently defeating Premier League leaders Auchinleck away and now sitting third in the league.

When Cambuslang Rangers last met Pollok in the Central League Cup on April 25, Jordan Halsman was sent off after 21 minutes and the side shipped three late goals.

Boss McColl admits Pollok will be favourites for this cup tie too, but is confident in the talent within his squad.

He said:“Pollok are a tough team that are playing really well just now, flying high in the league.

“The last time we played them the 4-0 scoreline flattered Pollok.

“We had 10 men for 70 minutes and I felt we matched them for most of the game.

“We had just played eight games in two and a half weeks, and began to tire towards the end of the match.

“That’s when they scored a few late goals - as we just ran out of steam.

“They will definitely be the favourites for this upcoming match but I’m hoping we can do better than before.

“Pollok have a lot of good players and they recently beat Auchinleck, but we have a lot of good individuals too.

“The boys have had a good rest and I think that will benefit them for this game.”

Pollok are current holders of the West of Scotland Cup, beating Cumnock in the final 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

However, Paul McColl reckons Cumnock were the better side that day and were unlucky to lose out in the penalty shoot-out.

His sights are now on going head to head with Pollok at home, but McColl is disappointed that the match was rescheduled for a Monday evening.

He said:“There’s no reason why it couldn’t have been held on a Saturday. People are busy during the week but I’m hoping we still get a decent crowd.”

The winners of the tie will face Hurlford United in the quarter-finals of the cup.
