TOWN IS ALL SET FOR SUMMERFEST

-

Thousands of Cambuslang locals are set for an all day party this Saturday, as Summerfest takes over the Main Street.

The community gala event has a host of acts and fun lined up.

There will be stalls, singers, a magic show and even a talking parrot among the entertainment.

And local community stalwarts will be honoured with the community awards.

Summerfest committee chairman John Edgar said:“We’ll have our fingers crossed for the weather, but people always come out for Summerfest.

“It’s a great thing for the community, and it’s all about trying to give everyone a good day out.

“Our thanks to South Lanarkshire Council, who have reinstated the £4000 grant that we used to receive.

“It was cut to £2000 the past few years, but the increase means we can keep going to the same standard, with costs rising everywhere.”

Performing on the day will be AJ Dancing from the Bonus Ball centre in Whitlawburn, local country and western singer Robin Taylor, the Quicksilver dancers, Bushido karate club, singer Scott Wallace, the Dance Elite dance troupe and songstress Sharon Nimmo.

McColls are bringing along Mickey and Minnie Mouse and characters from Frozen to entertain youngsters, while drinks giant Barrs are sending the Irn Bru can man to add to the fun.

Also on hand are the Robert the Bruce Society, who will be dressed as knights.

There will also be a bungee jump and a magic show, while a talking parrot will be sending locals into a flap - and hopefully speaking up.

Free face painting and toys for the kids will be available too.

The weather forecast for the day suggests there will be showers throughout the day.

As ever, motorists are being told to plan ahead with the Main Street closed for the event.

Cambuslang Main Street will be closed between Greenlees Road and Bridge Street from 6am until 8pm on the day.

Drivers are being urged to use Clydeford Road and Bridge Street as a diversion instead.

The annual Summerfest raffle was recently held in the build-up to the event, with the winners being

Kenny Finnie: £200 MOT and service Somervell MOT Station

May Thompson: £100 of Morrisons vouchers Jai Coleman: £50 of Morrisons vouchers. Saturday’s fun will start from 10am, with the official opening ceremony taking place at 12.10pm.
