Murder accused back in the dock

A 33-year-old man was due to make his second court appearance yesterday (Tuesday) in connection with the death of Rutherglen dad Steven Campbell.

Daniel McCafferty, who also lives in Rutherglen, first appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last Monday.

He was accused of murder and a second charge of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

McCafferty had been remanded in custody after making no plea or declaratio­n. He was scheduled to appear in the dock again yesterday as the Reformer went to press.

Steven Campbell, 27, died after being knocked down in Burnhill Street in the early hours of Saturday, June 2.

The father-of-three was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but later died.
