Dancers work hard to make a big donation

Over £3000 given to the Beatson charity

- Marc McLean

Dance school members performed a super smooth move recently by donating more than £3000 to a cancer charity.

Cambuslang-based Dance Elite presented a cheque for £3165.50 to The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow.

Dance Elite, which is run by Amy McCabe, has a great relationship with the charity, with its dancers entertaining at The Beatson Track event in August last year.

Amy’s mum Alison and 10 other mums on the dance school’s committee suggested that the kids’ annual Christmas show and party should also be used as a fundraiser for the Beatson.

They received huge support from the young dancers’ parents, local businesses and the wider community, selling 120 tickets.

The fundraising party was held in the town’s Masonic Hall in Tabernacle Street, which was also provided free of charge thanks to hall manager Jim Thomson.

Plenty of raffle prizes were donated by local businesses including Morrisons, Tesco, Kasey Cakes Costa, South Lanarkshire Leisure, Ryze and Gravity trampoline parks, Greggs, Fratelli Restaurant, Indiana Dome, Mayson Chinese, and Domino’s.

Around £1500 was raised on the night and this was doubled thanks to match-funding from Lloyd’s Bank & Royal Sun Alliance.

Dance Elite has been popular with boys and girls in the Cambuslang community for five years. They have studios in Clydeford Road and Mansion Road.

These offer dance, gymnastics , musical theatre and boys hip-hop sessions. See Facebook for more details on the group.
