Baker is in the prizes

A talented cake maker has the recipe for success after earning another top award.

Anna Dillon is celebrating after recently winning the new decorative cake competition held at the Ideal Home Show in Glasgow’s SECC. The theme for entries was “I Love Scotland” and Anna went straight to work on creating an edible version of Oor Wullie complete with his full kilt and clobber.

Judges Rose Dummer, of Extreme Cake Makers, and TV chef Rosemary Shrager were hugely impressed by Anna’s tasty work of art and awarded her first place.

Anna, who operates Dillon’s Snack Van in Ashton Road, Rutherglen, also picked up awards at the Cake International event in Birmingham in November.

The 49-year-old said: “I’ve been making the cakes professionally for around a year now. I’m looking to build that side of my business up further and so it’s nice to receive this recognition.

“I was the last person to drop the cake off on the Wednesday night before the show opened and when I saw how good the other entries were I didn’t think I’d win.

“I chose Oor Wullie because I was brought up with four brothers and every second year they would either get the Oor Wullie or The Broons book.”

The Ideal Home Show hosted its first cake competition in London earlier this year with a royal wedding theme, and organisers opted to stage another contest at the Scottish event held in May.

Anna spent two weeks working on her Oor Wullie creation in her spare time after work.

The ingredients included Rice Krispies, marshmallows, chocolate, icing, and a piece of poystyrene for Wullie’s bucket.
