Thought for the Week

-

In this beautiful sunny weather that we are having it’s very easy to look around us and see the beauty of nature, from the flowers to the trees, from the birds singing to the sun shining down.

It always lifts our spirits. We do tend to remember the summers of long ago and how good they were, thinking them better than now, One of the summers I remember the most started in April 1988. Yes, this year is the 30th Anniversary of the Glasgow Garden Festival. Do you remember the Coca-Cola Thrill Ride, a 250-foot tower or the Bell’s Bridge? Maybe you remember the biggest tea pot in the world, the water taxis or the return of tramcars for the first time since 1962? Or perhaps the fondest memories are of the railway, 112 gardens and the glass fibre irises?

I can remember scuba diving (in an on-site pool - not in the Clyde!) People visited occasionally, while others managed to go nearly every single day.

It was a summer that many people, especially those in and around Glasgow, enjoyed because of the festival, and I cannot remember what the weather was like, just the fun and excitement in the City.

That part of the Clydeside has changed over the years, and some of the attractions have been moved to other places while others have disappeared, but the memories we had of that time remain with us.

As we enjoy the nature that is around us may it continue to always lift our spirits and cheer us up on whatever we do.

Things may change and be different but we always have our memories whatever they are of as we go forward in life. Karen Hamilton D.C.S Deacon Cambuslang Parish Church
