In the North Eastern league Rutherglen had one win at home and one away against Springburn BC. This Friday’s game is against Springboig.

Last Saturday the club hosted a county game with Glasgow South playing Dumfriesshire which resulted in a 131111 win for Glasgow.

In the Cambuslang and District sseniors league it was one win each against Templeton. This week’s game is against Burnside.

Mark Kelsey was narrowly beaten in the Glasgow championships singles quarter-final by Alan Gray from Eaglesham.

In the Bowls Scotland district semifinals Mark won in the singles against Weirs and the triples of Gil Morgan, Jim Simpson and Gary Kelsey had a fine win against Kingswood.

In the pairs Billy Ross and Alastair Dick lost to Kingswood. Mark and the triples now go forward to the district finals to be played at Rutherglen on June 21.

This Saturday’s internal competition is the Forthwright triples starting at 11am. Last Saturday saw the annual friendly game against Condorrat take place with the Fergus Trophies at stake. The gents lost at home, but the ladies brought the cup back and a great night was had by all.

This weekend sees the Curley Cup Ladies Pairs take place on Saturday and the Gents Invitation Pairs (sponsored by Jim and Audrey Stoddart) take place on Sunday.

The gents senior rink of Wullie Anderson, Bob Forsyth, John Kerr and George McCutcheon won through to the semi-finals of the Lanarkshire event after defeating Colville Park at Bothwell last Wednesday. They will now play at Garrowhill next Tuesday.

The seniors will also be represented in the Rutherglen finals this Friday night when Alex Duncan, Kenny Russell, George McCutcheon and John Lowe take on Kingswood at Tollcross.

There was hard luck in the ladies Scottish ties. Taylor Gray lost her junior singles semi-final 21-19 last Friday night.

The triples team of Sandra Hughes, Taylor Gray and Lillian O’Neil then lost their district final on Sunday away to Bothwell.

The gents triple of Stewart Dunsmore, Hugh Gebbie and Stephen McIntyre won through to the district semi-final and played Hamilton Caley at Coalburn on Tuesday night. A win will put them in the final this Friday at Bothwell. In the district 26 seniors league teams Halfway A got two points against Udston a week past on Monday, Halfway B picked up full points against Bothwell.

The RDBA Triples team got off to a winning start with home and away wins against Croftfoot. This week’s opponents were Whitefield, next week’s are Kirkhill. Friday night was Overtoun’s Gala 2 Bowl tournament. This is a tricky game of singles because, as the name suggests, everyone has only two bowls to beat their opponent (over a mere five ends) in a knock-out competition.

After some surprise defeats, it was a battle of the sexes in the semi-final as Barbara Drummond and Jeanette Alexander battled it out against Eddie Picket and Jim Robertson, respectively, hoping to make it an all-female final.

But it was Eddie and Jim who won, quite decisively.

In the final, both gents were on their game and some great bowls were played.

In the end, Jim Robertson was pipped at the post and Eddie Picket is now the holder of the Gala 2-Bowl trophy.
