Sportsmen and women in Rutherglen and Cambuslang looking to increase their fitness are being invited to join in games of Tartan Touch.

The sport is a simple and social version of noncontact rugby with only eight simple rules which makes it a great game for all abilities and ages.

Hillhead Jordanhill RFC in the West End of Glasgow is hosting the sports sessions this summer and started the games on Friday night.

Lindsey Smith, who plays for the team and Scotland, is part of the organisers behind Tartan Touch at HJRFC.

She said: “We’re really excited about bringing Tartan Touch to Glasgow for the first time.

“Our club is one of the friendliest in Glasgow and we’re all looking forward to seeing lots of new faces playing rugby and enjoying themselves.”

Tartan Touch was launched in 2017, with 20 clubs chosen by the Scottish Rugby Union as hubs across Scotland.

The sport is a perfect for those who have never played rugby before or are coming back to the sport after an extended break and might be nervous about trying contact rugby to start with.

The action continues on June 15 at 7pm and will run every Friday until August 3 at Hillhead Sports Club, G12 9XP. There is food and drink refreshments at the club’s cafe.

For more information visit the club’s website or on Facebook.

A summer pass is £20 or a single session pass for £3 (Under 16’s £1, Under 12’s free if accompanied by an adult). Cash payments will also be taken on the evening.
