Jamie is all set for return to the Spiders

-

Queen’s Park head coach Gus MacPherson is closing in on bringing former Spider Jamie McKernon back to the club from junior side Glenafton.

The 26 year-old started his career at St Mirren and had loan spells at Ayr United and East Stirlingshire before joining Glenafton in 2013.

MacPherson coached McKernon when he was in charge of the Paisley club and took him to Hampden in 2015.

He played in 67 games as Queen’s won promotion and then retained their place in League One.

Working circumstances meant that McKernon returned to Glenafton last summer.

However, he is now able to return to the senior ranks and MacPherson has confirmed that positive talks have taken place.

The Hampden boss said: “We missed Jamie last season on the park and he missed playing at the club as well.

“I was made aware that he could be available and I’m delighted that we were able to get him agree to come back on board.”

Defender Gerry McLauchlan is also understood to have signed on for the new season at Queen’s.

The 29-year-old former Hamilton Accies stopper took time out of the senior game after leaving Cowdenbeath last summer, but returned with the Spiders last March.
