Rankin has pedigree for Bully Wee

- Murray Spooner

Clyde have snapped up former Dundee United and Hibs star John Rankin.

Rankin has penned a one-year deal with the Broadwood outfit after leaving Queen of the South at the end of last season.

League Two champions Montrose and Angus rivals Forfar both missed out on securing his signature after the 34 year old opted to stay at home and join The Bully Wee.

Rankin, who has played for a host of clubs including Manchester United, Ross County, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Falkirk said: “I am delighted to be a Clyde player. I am a local boy and could probably walk to the stadium, and that was a big part of it, as well as the club’s ambition to win the league or get promoted.

“That is massive in the stage of my career to try and achieve something like that.”

Clyde manager Danny Lennon told the club’s website: “John’s football story is a fascinating one.

“From his youth development days at Manchester United and Corinthians in Brazil, through to taking Dundee United into Europe and scoring winning goals against the biggest clubs in Scotland.

“Together, we are looking to continue that exciting story with John, adding some more wonderful moments to come in this chapter of his story here at Clyde FC.”
