World Cup fever grips the town

-

Scotland may have failed yet again to qualify for the World Cup.

But there was still excitement amongst Ruglonian football fans as the opening match of this year’s competition draws ever closer.

Tournament hosts Russia play Saudi Arabia tomorrow to kick things off and locals have been telling us who they think will or who they want to win the coveted golden trophy. Jimmy Anderson, 39, said: “I think Belgium could win it.

“They have a lot of decent players. I love wee Eden Hazard. But you can’t rule out the Germans or France.

“It’s just a shame Scotland aren’t there. Hopefully Alex McLeish can get us to the next one.”

Fernhill’s Alan Thornton can’t see past the Germans, while Charlie Wylie is favouring Belgium. The Cambuslang man is also backing anybody but the Auld Enemy.

He said: “I just don’t want England to win it. They bump their gums as usual and if they kept their mouths shut maybe people would get on with them.”

Lorna Allan,52, will be cheering on a South American superstar and said: “I don’t think Spain will win it, but Argentina could. They have got Lionel Messi.”

?? ?? Alan Thornton, 52, reckons his son’s prediction is a winner. He said: “Germany are such a good side. My son knows more than me and thinks it will be them and Argentina in the final.”
