A breakdown of homeless figures in South Lanrkshire
●The number of homeless applications in South Lanarkshire was 1989 in 2017-18 – a decrease of 20 (one percent) on the previous year, but 105 higher than in 2015-16. ●The number of people who had slept rough the night before increased from 25 in 2016-17 to 50 in 2017-18. The number of those who had slept rough at least once during the last three months dropped from 135 in 2016-17 to 105 in 2017-18.
The number of homeless applications in South Lanarkshire is the fifth highest out of 32 local authorities in Scotland. ●The average length of time in temporary accommodation: single person – 155 days; single parent– 245 days; couple – 166 days; couple with children – 252 days; two adults not a couple or more than two adults – 310 days; two adults or more with children – 294 days.
There were 1360 cases where people became homeless unintentionally, while 45 chose to leave their home for reasons such as family rows or relationship break-ups. A further 240 cases were handled after people were unintentionally threatened with being homeless.
The number of households put up in temporary accommodation was 615 (by the end of March 2018). ●Of those 615 households, 390 were put up in social sector accommodation, 65 stayed in a hostel, and 160 were listed as stayed in‘other’accommodation.
