Church club meeting led to 60 years of love
Anniversary joy
A Cambuslang woman’s church club meeting led to 60 years of marriage.
Grace Woodhouse first met her husband Tom, from Glasgow’s Southside, at the West Parish Church Youth Club in 1953 and the couple eventually married on Friday, June 13, 1958 at St Paul’s Church in Cambuslang.
Last week the happy couple, who now live in East Kilbride, celebrated their diamond wedding, which was marked with a visit from South Lanarkshire Provost Ian McAllan.
Provost McAllan said: “It was a tremendous honour to meet Tom and Grace and to be part of such a special celebration. Congratulations to them both.”
They were presented with flowers and whisky by the Depute Provost on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council and Deputy Lieutenant Sandy Wilkie gave them a card and a scroll from the Queen.
The couple were delighted to mark the occasion.
After their Cambuslang marriage the couple moved to Glasgow before later moving to East Kilbride after Tom had served two years national service with the 8th Army Fire Service.
They have two sons and six grandchildren, who live locally.
Tom worked as a joiner then as a clerk of works before becoming a chartered building surveyor, while Grace worked in retail fashion and soft furnishings, latterly as shop manager in Terleys.
They moved back to the Southside of Glasgow in 1993 then to Largs in 2014 before returning to East Kilbride in 2016.
They currently live in Stewartfield.
Tom is involved in many activities, mainly bowls and golf.
Grace enjoys flower arranging, baking and confectionery and they also enjoy going to the theatre, both locally and further afield.
