Double header for gig at the Meeting Place
Two acts to perform
The next folk gig at the Meeting Place at Stonelaw Parish Church will be a double header.
Alan Knox and John Malcolm will both be performing this Friday.
Alan started playing guitar and singing at Rutherglen Academy at the age of 14.
He played around clubs and pubs in the 60s and in the 70s work took him to Australia, where folk music was hugely popular.
Alan returned to Scotland in the 1980s, and then took a sabbatical of 20 years from singing.
Now he has taken up playing again, with British, American, Australian and Caribbean songs all part of his repertoire.
His biggest influences in the early years was the singing of Jeannie Robertson, Ewan McCall, and The Weavers.
Lanarkshire singer-songwriter John Malcolm has had an accomplished career in the Scottish folk music scene.
As a solo performer and member of Scots folk group Cruachan his eclectic mix of Scots, Irish and American songs is warmly received by audiences throughout Scotland and Europe.
As well as his work with Cruachan, he has released two solo recordings ‘Bridges’ and ‘Sands of Time’.
He has also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe with the author and storyteller Stuart McHardy.
As a solo performer John sings and plays guitar, mixing traditional Scots and Irish songs with the blues and songs of American singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton and John Prine.
John, who stays in Strathaven, has given up his day job to concentrate on his music and performs at folk clubs throughout Scotland.
Doors open at 7pm with tickets £5. Tea/coffee and home baking are included in the ticket price and children under 16 go free.
