The gents senior rink of Wullie Anderson, Bob Forsyth, John Kerr and Gordon Paterson lost their LBA semi-final against Airdrie Central last Tuesday night.

The ladies are still flying the flag in external competitio­ns with Sandra Hughes, Flo Thomson and Maureen Lewis winning their LWBA Triples tie last week. They will now play at Douglas in the district semi-final next Wednesday afternoon.

Flo Thomson and Helen Torrance played their West of Scotland Women’s Bowling Associatio­n pairs district final at Templeton yesterday against Rutherglen, result to follow next week.

The gents top six won their first-round match away to Burnhead last Thursday and will now play Whitefield at home in the second round tomorrow night.

The Lanarkshir­e League started last week and both teams got a good start.

Division Three beat Wishaw South 4-2 at home and Division 10 beat Orbiston at home by the same score. This week’s opponents are Hamilton Caley away (Div Three) and Dalzell at home (Div 10).

In the RDBA Triples league Halfway won away to Kirkhill but lost at home. This week’s opponents were Burnside before they play Tollcross seven days later.

In the District 26 Seniors league Halfway A won both their games against Dalserf to stay in contention.

This week’s opponents were Whitefield. Halfway B lost both their games against Hamilton Caley, they played Quarter this week.

The ladies triples takes place on Sunday with a 9.30am for 10am start. Rutherglen champion Mark Kelsey will join Gil Morgan, Jim Simpson and Gary Kelsey at the Scottish Championsh­ips at Northfield in July.

Mark won in the singles while the trio were victorious in the triples which bags them all a place, while representi­ng District 21 and Rutherglen, in the country’s biggest bowls tournament.

Last Saturday’s balloted pairs, sponsored by Burnside Travel, was won by Ronnie McDonald and Andy Dunn who beat Billy Hodge and Kenny Grummitt in a very closely fought final.

Rutherglen lost both games against Cambuslang in the Cambuslang and District Seniors league last week but go into this week’s game against Kingswood looking for a return to winning ways.

This Saturday’s internal competitio­n is the two bowl triples starting at 11am.

The Monday evening aggregate was won by BJ Aitken and John Rigby.

Rutherglen ladies hosted the first round match in the Rutherglen and District last week against Lanarkshir­e District, in the Torrance Purvis competitio­n which ended in four points each with Rutherglen and District one shot up. In the second round on Friday at Larkhall, Rutherglen and District could only manage two points against Lanarkshir­e’s six points which ended Rutherglen’s run in the competitio­n.

In the Bowls Scotland ladies district finals at Croftfoot Betty Duckett won through and will now represent Rutherglen at Northfield.

In the West of Scotland ladies championsh­ips Helen Stevenson and Betty Duckett made it through to the pairs district final at Templeton bowling club which was due to be played yesterday. The Friday night Lanarkshir­e Leagues got underway this week. The Division Seven team lost two matches and won the other away to Thankerton.

The Division 17 team fared better by winning two and losing one match at home to Beltane.

In the Cambuslang and District League, the seniors lost both their matches against runaway leaders Mount Florida.

The gents balloted pairs was held on Saturday with Gerry Boyd and Andy O’Hagan winning a very close final against Jim Quin and Tam McLinden after an extra end.

The ladies aggregate winners were: Helen Hefferland, Janine McMahon, Phyllis Boyd and Margaret Fellows.

On Saturday at the Cambuslang ladies invitation­al, a Whitefield team won the event. Congratula­tions to Elaine McCann, Janine McMahon, Pat Duffy and Rosie Gallagher.

Finally, this Saturday the club hosts the gents club triples.
