Archie works with Brawl contenders

-

A Rutherglen man got his first taste of working with professional boxers just weeks after passing his training course.

Archie Durie was handed the chance to work the corners at MTK Scotland’s Summertime Brawl event earlier this month.

The head coach at Duries ABC was working with boxers on the exciting 12-fight bill which included Castlemilk boxer Ross Murray’s victory over Steven Maguire at the Lagoon Centre show in Paisley.

Durie thanked MTK director Sam Kinnoch for allowing him to get some professional coaching experience under his belt. And he was grateful to the boxing chief for giving all at his Rutherglen boxing club free entry to the event.

He said:“It was a big night for myself as it’s two different worlds with amateur and professional boxing.

“With amateurs your teaching all the time with them learning their trade. But with pros you’re more fine-tuning, making sure everything’s good to go on the night and that the boxer is happy.

“As an experienced and successful amateur coach, I was still quite nervous when walking into the Lagoon Centre. But once Sam Kinnoch introduced me to his team I felt at ease.

“I knew some of the fighters having worked with a them as amateurs in the Scotland set up through the years and knew all the other trainers from my years in the game.

“As for the show itself It was a great night’s boxing with Castlemilk’s Ross Murray looking impressive and winning clearly on the bill also.”
