Halfway and District

Rutherglen had one win and a defeat in the Cambuslang and District Seniors league last week at home to Kingswood.

This week’s game is away against Kirkhill.

The Two Bowls Triples winners from Saturday were Brian Connelly, Andy Howarth and Jack Ferguson

The runners-up were Douglas Wiggins, Frank McAneney and Gordon Campbell.

The Monday evening aggregate had a very unusual result with three teams sharing top spot all being 17 shots up.

The teams were a triple of Danny McCafferty, Alex Colquhoun and Murray Yule and two pairs, Gil Morgan with George Beattie and Joe Paul and Stephen Fyfe.

Rutherglen representa­tives will also be playing in the Glasgow v Ayrshire annual match tomorrow.

On Wednesday evening Rutherglen’s Millenium triples team had a narrow shots difference win against Titwood.

This Saturday Rutherglen host the Rutherglen and District Jubilee triples starting at 10am. The season is now approachin­g the serious end of all the competitio­ns with many quarter-finals about to be played.

Burnside are inviting everyone to come along most evenings and take advantage of the good weather and see some great games of bowls.

Meanwhile, the usual Monday night aggregate game was well attended last week.

The prizes on the evening, with a winning score of plus 12 shots, went to the team of Steven Young, Alistair Neil, A McKell and David Hill.

In the Rutherglen and District Triples league we once again had mixed results with one team winning and another losing to Halfway.

Wednesday saw the Cambuslang District Seniors out against Whitefield Bowling Club.

Recent results for the seniors have been improving and last week saw one team winning and the other team narrowly beaten.

The club will be playing in the annual Ayrshire game. This is a very popular day of bowls and great fun with a few refreshmen­ts along the way.

The club wish good luck to all involved. Flo Thomson and Helen Torrance lost their West of Scotland Womens Bowling Associatio­n (WOSWBA) Pairs District final against Rutherglen at Templeton last Tuesday.

In the LWBA Triples District semifinal Flo Thomson, Sandra Hughes and Maureen Lewis will play at Douglas this afternoon. The District Final will take place at Stonehouse on July 20.

The Ladies Triples took place on Sunday and the eventual winners were Agnes Fitzpatric­k, Ann McCormack and Sandra Keary.

Both Lanarkshir­e League teams picked up two points out of six last Friday night in their games against Hamilton Caley (Division 3) and Dalzell (Division 10).

This week’s opponents are Newmains away in Division 3 and Eddlewood at home in Division 10.

In the RDBA Triples League Halfway won at home and lost away to Burnside.

This week’s opponents were Tollcross before they take on Cambuslang next week.

In the District 26 Seniors League Halfway A won home and away against Whitefield to remain in contention.

Halfway B won at home to Quarter but lost away.

They are set to play Larkhall and Red Deer this week.

The singles and pairs knockout competitio­ns begin next week.

Halfway welcome Cambuslang for the annual friendly game this Saturday where the McGinley Cup will be played for. It is a 2pm start. Whitefield gents had an excellent win in the LBA Top 6 away to Halfway on Thursday and will now host Motherwell in the District semi-final.

In the Lanarkshir­e League the Division 7 team won four points at home against Airdrie. The team in Division 17 collected two points away to Greengairs.

In the Cambuslang and District League, there was a win and a loss against Burnside. In the RDBA Triples League, both teams lost against Cambuslang.

The gents aggregate winners were Jimmy Gallagher and Jim Molloy.

The ladies aggregate winners were Pat Duffy and Elaine McCann.

Finally, on Saturday the club hosts the Cancer and Arthritic Charity Day and on Sunday the Ladies 2+1 hold their competitio­n.
