Family still hope to find their missing dog

Missing for months

- Marc McLean

A devastated family are pleading with Rutherglen residents to help reunite them with their missing dog.

And a £500 reward is on offer for anyone who can return chihuahua Orla to her home in Bankhead.

Lindsey Hanley told the Reformer how her tiny pooch disappeared at around 11.30pm on Sunday, May 13, when it followed her outside in the dark.

It is now two months on and the mum admits she is worried Orla was killed by foxes frequently seen in the area.

Having spoken to the RSPCA for advice, animal officers confirmed to Lindsey that foxes may have seen her small dog as a threat and attacked it.

However, the 41-year-old and her daughters Allanah, 21, Kiera, 18, and Zoe, 12, were given some hope last week.

Lindsey said: “I did an appeal on Facebook and put posters up everywhere with a picture of Orla and our contact number.

“I got a phone call last Sunday night where kids say they were positive they seen her.

“Maybe she was chased away by a fox? Maybe someone who doesn’t know she is our missing dog has taken her in? I’m really hoping that she is still out there.

“My daughters desperately want her back. We’re all absolutely distraught. We miss all the wee things, such as her lying beside you or appearing when there is food around.”

The family had Orla for four years and she is a small dog with a light coloured coat, as seen in the poster Lindsey’s daughters are holding.

The dog is not microchipped and was not wearing a collar that would identify her. The family say she is a timid dog and would not approach people she did not know.
