Audrey is hoping for Fringe benefits

Cash hope for show

- Jonathan Geddes

A Rutherglen musician is hoping to drum up support for her new project.

Audrey Tait is taking part in the Closed Doors production at the Edinburgh Fringe next month which will see her and her collaborators Belle Jones and Lauren Gilmour combine a theatre show with a live gig.

The trio are now planning to release the new work as an album and have launched a Pledge Music page to raise funds for the record.

Anyone who orders the album will help fund the show itself.

Audrey explained: “We chose to go with Pledge Music because it’s based on the premise of giving your audience an opportunity to pre- order merchandise rather than a traditional donation-based crowdfunding site.

“We’d already recorded the album and wanted to use this platform as a means of making people familiar with the show before the festival. As an independent production, all the money will contribute to the overall cost of putting the show on and the support we’ve had so far has been so generous, so we’re really grateful.”

Audrey now can’t wait for the Fringe shows which run between August 3 and 26 at the Summerhall venue.

The show is set in a multicultural neighbourhood and is centred around four different women.

She said: “It’s really exciting for us. It’s daunting because this is the first project of this nature we’ve done as a group but it’s great to be challenged and inspired by something new.

“For me personally, I haven’t done a run of this length before so I’m really up for getting the work in front of as many new audiences at Summerhall as we can.”

Anyone wanting to donate to the project can do so via www. pledgemusic. com/ projects/ closed-doors.
