Inspiring reasons provide willpower for losing weight

- Michelle Friel

Keep your why close by... I asked my members in meetings last week who had ever heard of this, and I was very surprised at how few of them had heard of the phrase before.

Asking the members what they thought it meant, they were correct in saying why do we do something?

So, I asked them, why did they get out of bed this morning, and answers were varied from, ‘ had to work’, ‘had to take the kids to school,’ and ‘had to take the dog out for a walk’.

Then I asked ‘why are you here at Weight Watchers?’ It might seem like a silly question, but members said ‘to lose weight of course!’

Yes, they were all attending their weekly meets to lose weight but why were they there to lose?

Some members had to rethink their reasons, and these ranged from health, to needing knee operations, to wanting to be able to run about with the kids/ grandkids, to wanting to be able to climb the stairs without getting out of breath, and even because they wanted to start a family!

Sometimes we need to think about why we want to lose weight, as we need a reason, a goal to aim for to help keep us focused, and help to ma k e the final weight loss goal achievable and a reality that each and e v e r y member will be able to get to, and it was this thought that my members have taken away to remind themselves of why they want to lose weight.

If you want to lose weight, ask yourself why do you want to lose, and this will help you get started on your journey.

Got a reason to lose weight? Then come along and join your local Weight Watchers meeting, Thursday, at either 7pm at the Burnside Hotel, or Friday at 10am at Cambuslang Rugby Club.
