Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard in the NHS

-

The NHS is now 70. In 1948, Britain introduced healthcare that’s free at the point of use for every citizen, it’s a healthcare system that is talked about around the world and we should be proud that we have it.

The NHS belongs to us all, whether we are Labour, SNP, Lib Dem or Conservative and it’s a fabulous legacy that we pass down from generation to generation.

It’s something that every government tries to protect.

The current government has promised to invest an extra £394 million a week across the United Kingdom in order that we can get the healthcare that we need – free at the point of use.

It is imperative that the government at both Holyrood and Westminster use this money to invest in modernising hospitals, cutting waste so more can be spent on patients, and increasing training for doctors and nurses to help provide more much-needed staff.

I think that we all must have our stories to share on the NHS, it’s at the heart of a lot of our communities and we are all very grateful to anyone that works within it.

My mum has been a nurse for over 40 years, training at Hairmyres, then moving to Rutherglen Maternity for the whole time it was open.

It would make me so proud when I would walk with her around Safeway and people would stop her to say thank you and show off their babies that she had delivered.

I have so much to be grateful for, especially now having my own child who has been poorly and required an operation.

Happy birthday to the NHS and thank you to all of you who have worked so hard there over the years.

I have so much to be grateful for
