The week kicked off with Burnside’s Monday night aggregate game which was won by the team of Pete Monaghan, James Elborn, Tom Connor and Chris Allan.

The Rutherglen and District triples and Cambuslang seniors games once again had a balanced outcome when both had one team win and the other coming second.

Four triples teams travelled to Tulliallan BC on Saturday for Burnside’s annual parish game.

A great day was had by all and the icing on a great day was a closely fought win for the visitors.

There was also a first for the club when Billy Fox and Ken Stirratt took advantage on the day to play out a tie which could not be played on time at Burnside for reasons of logistics and green availability.

Billy is a bit of a rookie at the game of bowls and many thought his chances were slim against the hugely experienced Ken Stirratt.

However, bowls has a habit of throwing up unusual results and Billy emerged the victor much to the surprise of the onlooking crowd.

Burnside Ladies hosted the annual invitation pairs game on Sunday and 24 teams, representing 10 clubs, turned out on a day of variable weather to battle it out on the green.

The tournament started with five games for each of the teams in four sections with the winners of each section heading into the semi-finals.

The final was contested by teams from Kingswood and Mosspark with Helen McGregor and Linda Hislop of Kingswood emerging victorious.

Many of the ladies present praised the day of bowls and both Freida Thompson and Pat Caughey are to be congratulated for all their hard work in organising the day. Rutherglen visited Portland Kilmarnock last Saturday to play their annual friendly.

A good day was had by all and Rutherglen won the game bringing the friendly quaich back home. Rutherglen had two wins in the Cambuslang and District Seniors league at home against Mount Florida.

This week’s game is away at home against Mount Vernon.

The RDBA triples league game last Tuesday evening against Cambuslang ended with the points being shared with a home win for each club.

This week’s game is against Halfway and District.

In the Glasgow Top 10 tournament Rutherglen drew with Abronhill at Hillington but went through on shots difference. They were due to travel to Greenfaulds on Tuesday evening.

The Monday evening aggregate was won by Ian Latta, Joe Paul and Jim Douglas. The internal tournament on Saturday is the Jimmy Reid Triples starting at 11am.

This game is sponsored by Dignity Funerals. Kirkhill Bowling Club played their part in the Glasgow v Ayrshire tournament last week.

The club were involved in three matches, all playing 31 ends.

In the first game, Ronnie Lewis, Roy Linder, Morris Smith and David Young were extremely well looked after by their hosts, Dalmellington Bowling Club.

However, it was the Glasgow representatives who were victorious 43-20 and also won the sweep for the highest score on the day, the proceeds of which will be donated to CHAS ( Children’s Hospice Association Scotland).

In match two Dailly BC, who also managed to win all their games, beat the team consisting of Jim Cunningham, John Coubrough, Iain McKay and Les Reekie 39-19.

Game three saw Charlie Lamont, Jim Proctor, Willie Shepherd and Kenny Wilson win 44-19 against Skelmorlie.

Kirkhill thanked all clubs for their great hospitality. In the Templeton gents section this week’s aggregate game was won by S McCutcheon, A Wallace and I Morrison by 11 shots up. And in the RDBA league both teams lost to St Leonard’s in the triples while the Cambuslang District Seniors players won against Kirkhill, as did the teams against Castlemilk in the Glasgow Bowling League.

The mixed singles competition was won this year by Tommy Wilson who beat Graham Mitchell.

In the ladies section the triples playing in the West of Scotland event - Peggy Stirling, Sandra McCutcheon and Janet Cathie - played on Tuesday and Thursday and won both games.

They were due to play in the semi-final at Cardonald BC yesterday, Tuesday.

The aggregate was won by Irene Muir, Jean McClimens and Bell Mitchell by four shots up.
