Rutherglen Reformer

Few things are more important to us than knowing we are safe in our communities.

This means a lot of things, not least in our homes and on our local streets. As a regional MSP I try to remain as active as possible and in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area I’ve been out and about all summer, listening to people’s concerns. One thing that has struck me is the number of anti-social behaviour and crime cases that I have picked up.

It is clear that for some parts of the community there are real worries about safety. This is combined with a few serious news stories recently about attacks and criminal activity.

Because of this I’ve arranged to hold a drop-in session with the local police to allow you to come along, raise your concerns and find out more about the hard work being done by the local policing team. Combined with this, my staff and I will be in attendance, along with local councillor Walter Brogan.

We will be ready to take down details of your issues and provide advice on what we can do to help. It’s often not clear to people the support that MSPs can offer so this is a good opportunity to share whatever is facing you.

If you are worried about getting home safe at night, crimes happening nearby or anything else, Cllr Brogan can help to liaise with South Lanarkshire Council about improving the safety on your street and the police officers can look into the underlying causes of this in your area. I will be able to help in following it up with any organisations who can be there to support you.

You are invited to come along to the Caledonian Centre in the Cambuslang Circuit from 11am to 1pm tomorrow (Thursday).

I am out and about all over Rutherglen and Cambuslang at the moment, distributing my latest parliamentary newsletter.

This update contains all that I’ve been up to since last summer.

I am proud to have met a great number of local organisations and helped a lot of individuals with casework. Being rooted in your community is a core belief of mine and putting the newsletter together was a proud moment, looking back at the challenges and successes of the past 12 months.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you.
