Seeking Santa!

Store on the hunt

- Jonathan Geddes

It might only be August but a Cambuslang company is already thinking about who’s naughty and nice.

Elfy Trees have a vacancy to fill, and only men with white beards and a fondness for red clothes can apply.

The company, who sell Christmas trees from their Johnstone Drive base, are desperately seeking a Santa to take up the (sleigh) reins later in the year.

And they are hoping a local man might have the magic touch.

Donna Stevenson, who owns the company with husband Jim, explained: “The Santa we have had for the past two years has retired, so we need someone new to fill the role.

“We want someone who is good with children, patient, friendly, kind and who can get into the spirit of Christmas.

“They need to believe they are Santa so the children and parents can pick up the magic from them.

“That is core to everything we do at Elfy Trees, we won’t put someone in the role if they can’t get into character.

“We would love to hear from older gentlemen, preferably ones who have a natural white beard or who can actually grow one by then!”

The role will start in November and run through until the middle of December.

Elfy Trees are known for wearing elf costumes while going about their work, and the company has become a popular festive fixture in Cambuslang.

In recent years the company’s Santa’s post box and toy appeal has helped out REACH Lanarkshire Autism and Project 31.

And they are eager to help out whoever signs up to be Santa.

Donna added: “We will provide training so if the right person comes along we will be happy to sprinkle some elf dust on them to put everything we need in place!”

Interviews will be held next month, and anyone interested in applying can do so via www. reed.co.uk or by emailing Donna at donna@t4sscotland.com.
