McColl: dodgy decisions “cost us”

Clydebank............. 3 Cambuslang ......... 3

-

Gutted Cambuslang boss Paul McColl insists that he felt“cheated”after some dodgy decisions cost his side all three points.

The Lang looked to be cruising to victory after going three goals up, however the team were reduced to 10 men early in the second half.

And a bad call by a linesman to award their opponents a throw-in led directly to a goal for Clydebank.

Jack Breslin had put Camby ahead in the first half after scrambling the ball into the net from a corner.

Frontman John Gemmell made no mistake from the penalty spot in the second half to double their advantage.

Jordan Morton then fired the team’s goal of the season so far with a 20 yard strike that flew into the top corner.

McColl’s lads looked odds-on for their second win out of three, but the team had suffered a setback when centre-half Chris Meikle had to go off injured.

Bankies capitalised on the Cambuslang reshuffle when Steven Higgins pulled a goal back.

The Lang were then dealt another blow when Craig McLeish was given his marching orders following a clash with Clydebank’s Chris Black.

In 82 minutes, Jamie Darroch netted to make it 3-2, and in the 89th minute Jordan Shelvey met Michael McIndoe’s cross to equalise for Clydebank.

Paul McColl said: “We were playing well when Chris Meikle had to go off injured. He went over on his ankle and it was thought at first that he’d broken it.

“Then Craig McLeish went up for a header and the linesman said that he’d elbowed the Clydebank guy. So the referee gave him a straight red card.

“It was a bad decision as Craig is a quiet guy and definitely not a dirty player by any means.

“The linesman also wrongly gave a throw-in to Clydebank when the ball had clearly hit one of their players, and they went onto score from that.

“Those decisions cost us the game. We feel cheated.

“We’ve been working hard all week, the guys play really well, and then we are hit with a couple of very poor decisions.”

Cambuslang are now sitting seventh in the table, with one win, one loss, and one draw on the board. On Saturday, the lads are away to Pollok, who sit two places below on three points.
