AMBUSH HORROR AS CAR THIEVES STRIKE

Shocked owner held at knifepoint

- Marc McLean

Carjackers robbed a good Samaritan of his Jaguar after he stopped to give them a hand.

The 52-year-old man was threatened with a blade after he pulled over to help one of the crooks, who had apparently broken down in their own motor.

The victim was then taken to a nearby field and ordered to lie down.

One of the men sped off in the expensive car, which was found burnt out just seven miles away half an hour later.

Police are still trying to catch the crooks and an accomplice who was spotted driving away in the other car that had supposedly broken down.

Detective Constable Paul Mooney, of Cambuslang CID said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim and it is absolutely vital that we trace the despicable individuals responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Flemington Road around 3pm on Saturday, particularly any motorists with dashcams, to please get in touch.”

The victim was driving his white Jaguar along Flemington Road when he was flagged down by a man standing next to a silver Ford Focus.

The man claimed to have a puncture and asked for a lift before pulling out

a knife.

He demanded the man leave the car and took him to a nearby field, where he ordered him to lie down.

The robber then made off in the Jaguar and the victim saw a second man driving off in the Ford Focus.

Once the criminals had left the scene the victim made his way back to the main road, where he came across cyclists who helped him contact police.

The Jaguar was discovered burnt out in Netherhouse Road, Bargeddie, at around 3.30pm.

Police described one of the men as white with a pale complexion, late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 8ins, of heavy build and with short, dark hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie.

The other man is described as 5ft 10ins and was wearing a black hoodie.

DCe Mooney said: “I would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of Netherhouse Road and may have noticed the cars described above, or two men behaving suspiciously, to come forward.”
