Cathkin High pupil’s joy

- Jonathan Geddes

A Cambuslang paper girl was delighted with a very special recent delivery – of straight A’s in her Higher exams.

Lauren Stewart, 16, who lives in Newton and attends Cathkin High, was over the moon after landing top marks in her maths, English, biology, chemistry and modern studies exams, in addition to an A in Higher Music which she sat last year, while in 4th year.

Lauren hopes the good grades will help her to achieve her aim of studying medicine after she finishes school, with the goal of becoming a paediatrician.

The talented teenager has now returned for her sixth year at school and is sitting advanced higher maths, advanced higher biology and higher Spanish.

Her delighted mum Shirley told the Reformer: “We’re so proud of Lauren’s achievements – we always knew she was bright and hard-working but to achieve straight A’s is amazing and will hopefully open up a whole range of opportunities to realise her ambitions in life. “She’s a wee star – our family genius!” This isn’t the first time Lauren has featured in the Reformer.

Two years ago we told how she helped out a pensioner who had fallen in her home.

Quick-thinking Lauren had noticed Jeanie McLaughlin was lying on the floor.

She told her mum about the problem, and they were able to enter the house and help Jeanie back to her feet, and made sure she was OK, before checking in again later on to see how she was.
