Thought for the Week

-

It’s that time of the year again when children go back to school and things get back into a routine after the break of the summer holidays.

I remember taking my son Alistair to school on his first day and that reminds me of just how special our children and now grandchildren are to us.

To spend time with a child is a profoundly moving experience.

Yes, they can drive us to distraction sometime, yet in the honesty, openness, innocence and simple trust of the very young, along with their unquenchable energy for life, there is something uniquely precious.

They find wonder in things we count as ordinary and take pleasure in the simple things of life.

We need to maintain through our life those childlike qualities, like looking at our world with wonder, seeing a divine hand at work, and we need to trust God even when we don’t understand what is happening to us and the world around us.

We need to approach life with that same sense of openness and that same hunger to learn, looking and asking for God’s help and guidance in our unfolding journey through life.

When things seem dark and bleak and we have hit rock bottom we too need to feel held by our Heavenly Father when no one else can do anything to help and know that we are precious, special children to God who loves us unconditionally.

Next time you experience a wonderful sunset or rainbow, why not stop and take it in?

Or when you see or hear something funny stop and take time to laugh, expressing the inner child within us. Rev Sandra Boyd King’s Park Parish Church
