Golf plan tees up jobs
More than 300 new jobs could be created for Cambuslang as part of ambitious plans to bring a paradise for golfers to the area.
Topgolf International have proposed bringing a “state of the art, multi-level golf entertainment complex”to the Two 74 site off Cambuslang Road.
It would be the golf company’s first Scottish location, with a full application expected to be submitted by the end of the year.
The company claim the move would create 350 full and part-time jobs at the site, which is currently derelict.
Steven McGarva, development director at Ashfield Land who has led the strategic assembly of the Two 74 site and is overseeing its build out, said:“Ashfield Land is delighted to be working with Topgolf on a new and exciting venue which will bring with it significant jobs and investment.
“Our plans will be finalized in the coming weeks with a detailed application expected to be submitted by the end of the year.”
Chief development officer Chris Callaway, said: “Our first three venues were in the UK, and we have been looking to expand here in Scotland for a number of years now.
“Throughout the last few months, we have focused on securing a suitable location in Glasgow.
“Two 74 is the ideal location for us, and we will work with the local authority and other agencies to secure an implementable consent.”
Permission for the Two 74 project was first given in 2011, when plans also included a hotel and cinema.
It was expected to open in the middle of last year, but was delayed due to a lack of companies agreeing to lease stores there.
Every Topgolf venue features dozens of high-tech, climatecontrolled hitting bays for year-round comfort.
The company has 45 venues and welcomes more than 13 million guests annually.
Their venues also include next-gen simulator lounges through Topgolf Swing Suite and the company also hosts a globalTopgolfTour competition.
