Music is the food of love

Asda hosts charity day

- Jonathan Geddes

A local supermarket was alive with the sound of music recently – and all for a good cause.

Customers at their local Asda Toryglen were entertained by an array of young local musicians who provided entertainment and tunes at the store during the day.

Local boy Matthew Gibb from Simshill and Asda Toryglen Community Champion Elizabeth Arbuckle decided to organise the event for the second year running to help raise funds for Cash For Kids.

Matthew brought everyone together to enjoy a day of sharing their love of music, while at the same time supporting a great cause.

Castlemilk girl Robin Ashcroft was first up singing together with 12-year-old Connor Fyfe, while other performers included Kirsty Quinn, Taylor Gilmour, Kim Irvine and Ciara Watt.

All the young musicians took time out from their busy schedule to give 30 minutes to entertain customers, friends and family who turned out to support the cause.

The store also recently held their own Bring and Buy/Cake and Candy sale as well as dressing down with a Back To School theme.

Asda colleagues brought in home baking and unwanted items and had a sale for colleagues on the bridge in the store.

Elizabeth Arbuckle said: “We’d like to thank everyone who supported our event and a massive thank you do all our customers who continue to support all year round. Every penny raised goes directly to the charity.”
