Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl watched his in-form side power past Glenafton – and then backed them to repeat the job against league leaders Hurlford.

A double from deadly striker John Gemmell and another strike by defender Scott Faulds secured three points, lifting Cambuslang to fourth in the table.

The league place is impressive, given that they have only played two games at home so far and four away.

Boss McColl told the Reformer: “I was really pleased with Saturday, because we were playing a very good team.

“It was good to get a game back at home to start with, and we played well throughout it. We worked really hard for the 90 minutes, and everyone played their part.”

Gemmell, nicknamed The Beast, continued his fine form, with six goals in his last five games.

“John is on top of his game at the moment.

“He’s good in the air, can score crazy goals, takes penalties and is a handful for any defence in the league.

“He and Callum McRobbie are working really well together.”

Now Cambuslang face the daunting prospect of a trip to play Hurlford this Saturday, who have won all six of their games so far.

But the Lang gaffer insists his men won’t be intimidated.

McColl added: “We’ll be going there to win, not to play for a draw or anything like that.

“Hurlford are a top side but they’ll know they we can play too. Maybe we’d have been a bit cautious last year, but we have proven we can play against the best already this season – we should have beaten Clydebank and we should have got at least a point against Pollok, so we have confidence right now.”

Meanwhile goalkeeper Sandy Thomson has left the club, signing for Lesmahagow this week.
