before the match, which saw Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot defeat Denis Istomin and Sanjar Fayziev by a score of 4-6 7-6 (10-8) 6-2 6-3.

Innes, who’s a big fan of Andy and Jamie Murray, said: “It was great everyone was very friendly and I loved doing the coin toss.

“Denis Istomin was very nice and I liked being out there.”

Innes’s big moment was watched by parents Paul and Karen, as well as younger sister Hannah.

Paul, who comes from Toryglen but now lives in Westburn, told the Reformer he was proud to see his son out on court,

He said: “Watching him out there wanting to do his best, I felt so proud of him.

“He liked meeting Istomin because he chatted to him – it was quite funny because during the match a few folk were booing Istomin, just in a jokey way, and Innes didn’t like that at all!

“Then afterwards Dom Inglot, Jamie Murray and Leon Smith were signing things and posing for pictures.

“You couldn’t have met nicer people and the atmosphere was great for the whole day - it was pretty special.”

Innes first became involved in playing tennis through an open day at the club, part of the LTA’s (Lawn Tennis Association) Tennis for Kids programme.

However Paul added that technically this wasn’t Innes’ first Davis Cup experience...

“Karen and I actually went to one of the Davis Cup ties in 2012 when she was expecting Innes!

“He’s absolutely sports mad, and Rutherglen were having an open day earlier this year, so we went along and Innes really enjoyed it.

“It was a fantastic way to get into the sport, and the whole club have been really friendly. We were honoured when they asked if Innes would be interested in representing the club at such a big event.”

The doubles victory on Saturday helped Britain win the best of five tie 3-1.
