The Rotary Club of Cambuslang celebrated its 50th year with a gala dinner at the King’s Park Hotel.

The event on Saturday was attended by over 70 current and former Rotarians and guests, included founder members Gordon King and Alastair Moodie.

Also attending were Rotary members from Cambuslang’s mother club Rutherglen, including John Leslie, son of the Cambuslang’s first president James Leslie, and members of the Rotary Club of East Kilbride.

Guests were welcomed with a glass of bubbly before enjoying the four-course gala dinner. There was also a display of club memorabilia, trophies and albums to browse along with a slideshow of photos from the last 50 years.

The evening was chaired by club president Robert Dickie, who introduced the main speaker Jim Ross, district governor for the West of Scotland.

There were also toasts from Barry Toshner, president of the Rutherglen club, and Iain Macpherson, past president of the East Kilbride Club.

The evening included a special moment when a Paul Harris Fellowship was presented to past president and former member Kenny Wilson in recognition of all his work within Rotary and for his many years volunteering and fundraising for CHAS, the Bridgeton Burns Club and other local charities.

A donations box raised £470 for Rotary Foundation charity Polio Plus. The evening concluded with the Rotary toast to Rotary and peace the world over.

The club’s next big events will be its Burns supper on January 19 and a sporting dinner scheduled for March 22.
