Janette’s spur of the moment decision pays off

Slimmer has lost almost 6 stone

A simple leaflet dropping through her letter box proved to be the defining moment that would prompt Rutherglen woman Janette Anderson to radically change her lifestyle.

When she saw the flyer for a local Slimming World class, Janette acted on the spur of the moment - and it was a whim that would turn her into a fitter, healthier and happier woman with a fresh outlook on life.

When Janette jumped behind the wheel of her car in March 2016 to head to her first Slimming World meeting with the leaflet in her hand, she weighed 16st 5.5lbs.

“I was getting a bit fed up with being out of breath, with clothes not fitting me properly and suffering from aches and pains,” remembers retired Scotrail worker, Janette, 62.

“There was a girl I was working alongside who had quickly lost two stones on Slimming World and was singing their praises. I looked at the leaflet, glanced at my watch and saw that the group was meeting in 40 minutes. On the spur of the moment, I jumped in the car and decided to go for it.”

Janette received a warm and friendly welcome from consultant Linda Parrott and members at the meeting at The Montford function suite in Curtis Avenue, King’s Park.

Janette quickly made friends and was overwhelmed by the support and encouragement of the other members as they helped each other through their weight loss journey.

She joined her new friends on nights out and now enjoys a regular zumba class with them.

Janette, who is now a slender 10st 8lbs, is now a Slimming World diamond member, having maintained her target weight for over a year.

Even though she has achieved her ideal weight and pledged to be slim for life, Janette still attends the meetings – not only because she likes to keep focussed on her weight, but simply because she loves it.

She has turned her back on the biscuits, chocolates and ready meals that made up her diet previously.

Her husband, David – who is a talented cook – enjoys dabbling with the tasty recipes on the Slimming World eating plan and is delighted with the difference Janette’s new healthy lifestyle is having on her attitude to life.

“Originally when I reached my target, I thought that the hard work was done. It was a transition getting used to not seeing the pounds coming off each week and no longer receiving awards for my weight loss and still feeling motivated,” explained Janette.

“That’s where my consultant Linda and the rest of the group were a huge help, as they would remind me how far I’d come and receiving my diamond target award for being at target for a year was a huge milestone for me. I know now I’m slim for life.”

Linda Parrott’s group meets every Thursday at 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm in The Montford, 23-27 Curtis Ave. For more information, call Linda on 07730 349212.
