Hard-working group has Cambuslang at its heart

-

As part of the role of being a Councillor for the Cambuslang area, myself, Councillor Bradley and Councillor Walker attend the Cambuslang Community Council meetings.

The Community Council is a formally constituted group of residents who care about the Cambuslang area.

Their main role is to consult local people on matters affecting them and make their views known to South Lanarkshire Council and other bodies.

Any resident of the area can become a community councillor or attend meetings which are usually held on the third Tuesday of every month (except July, August and December) at 7.30pm in the Cambuslang Institute on Greenlees Road.

Having attended these meetings for over a year now I thought it would be good to commend and congratulate this group of people for all that they do for the community.

They have been the voice for our town on lots of important issues such as parking at the train station and lobbying for park and ride, the Main Street and getting it tidied up and also pushing for better banking facilities.

They also help with the local parks and do a clean-up once a month at Holmhills Park.

Without the Community Council, you wouldn’t be enjoying the lovely flowers on the Main Street, where Cambuslang in Bloom do a great job of fundraising and planting as well as keeping the baskets watered.

I have to say, it’s really brightened up the area and I’m looking forward to helping with some of the weeding and tidying up this winter.

The meetings are a great way to find out more about the community and we would love for more people to come along and tell us about anything you think would benefit the area.

It’s great to have visitors to the meeting and even better to have the regulars there, who have Cambuslang’s interest at heart – if you have anything you would like to suggest take a look at the Facebook page or come along to a meeting.

The website has a wealth of Cambuslang information about clubs and history, it also has all the information about the meetings and all the ways to get in touch with your elected members and the Community Council http://www.cambuslangcommunitycouncil.com

Hopefully we see some new faces and ideas at the next meeting!

The meetings are a great way to find out more about the community and we’d love for more people to come along
