Alzheimer’s help

-

Did your readers know that Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, with 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK?

Or that 225,000 people will develop dementia this year alone?

As this month we mark World Alzheimer’s Day, I’d like to share a little more about our work supporting couples and families living with the condition.

Couples like husband and wife David and Rhoda. David is the sole carer for his wife Rhoda who has Alzheimer’s.

Adjusting to life as the sole carer for Rhoda was difficult for David and not being able to have a conversation with Rhoda or spend quality time together as husband and wife became overwhelming.

Unpaid carers supporting someone with dementia save the economy an estimated 11 billion pounds per year. That’s why we’re passionate to do everything we can to support carers like David and those that they lovingly care for to take a break and enjoy some time away from their everyday routines.

I work for Revitalise, a charity that provides respite holidays for disabled people and carers at our three accessible UK centres.

We are also proud to be the UK’s leading experts in providing respite holidays for people with Alzheimer’s and dementia through our specialist Alzheimer’s weeks.

Each and every aspect of our unique Alzheimer’s weeks have been designed with our guests in mind, giving carers the opportunity to place the care of their loved ones in expert hands and to simply take time to relax and enjoy quality time with the one they love.
