Solo outing is on-song

Solo: A Star Wars Story (12)

Despite a troubled production, this spinoff may not be classic Star Wars, but it’s far from the disaster many feared.

Alden Ehrenreich gives a charismatic, charming performance as Han and Donald Glover’s Lando is the epitome of cool. The set-pieces peak with a thrilling train robbery and nice callbacks feature throughout.

The Walking Dead Season 8 (18)

We were promised all out war but only occasionally does this middle-of-theroad season hit explosive heights.

It’s at its best when the pace quickens and Andrew Lincoln’s Rick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan butt heads.

Fittingly, the finale is equally exciting and brilliant and nonsensical and frustrating.

The Flash Season 4 (12)

Probably this DC show’s weakest run yet, which shows how high previous standards were set as it’s still good fun.

For varying reasons, Neil Sandilands’ intriguing turn as villain The Thinker is sidelined for lengthy spells and when he takes to the air in a specially-designed chair he looks like a bad special effect from the 90s.

Grant Gustin is still on-point as the titular hero, and should really have got the nod to fill the role in DC’s cinematic universe. Tom Cavanagh (Wells) also continues to steal scenes and Hartley Sawyer (Ralph) is a welcome addition to the team.

But too many twists can be seen coming and plot arcs like our hero’s prison stint are resolved unrealistically quickly... even for The Flash.
