Spiders fall to defeat

Queen’s Park ....... 0 Edinburgh City ...... 2

The threat of losing their home was compounded by losing their manager last week.

So it was no huge surprise that Queen’s Park were defeated by league leaders Edinburgh City on Saturday.

Gus MacPherson left the Spiders to take up a technical director role at former club St Mirren, and his assistant Mark Roberts stepped into the dugout as caretaker.

It was City’s first-ever league game at the National Stadium and they took the lead in the 38th minute following some poor defending.

Shepherd got free down the right in acres of space, and Taylor was equally unmarked in the box to accept his cross and shoot low past Hart.

No changes were made by either side at the break, but Queen’s started brighter and pressed forward.

But the game looked all but over in 58 minutes when Taylor grabbed his second goal, making space on the edge of the box before thrashing a right-foot shot high over Hart.

City then had furious claims for a penalty when Shepherd went down under McLauchlan’s challenge in 67 minutes, but ref Stuart waved them away.

With less than 20 minutes remaining, McLean had two good chances blocked as Queen’s tried to salvage something. Hart then produced a fine save to keep it at 2-0, turning Smith’s shot onto his right-hand post at full stretch.
