News in brief from around the local churches
Burnside Blairbeth Church will hold Messy Church this Saturday, with a Harvest theme.
It starts with an hour of crafts and games, followed by a celebration with a Bible story and singing, finishing with a two-course meal and will run from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
Children’s club Jump has restarted in the Blairbeth building on a Wednesday evening for children in P1-P7. It is from 6-7.30pm.
The church will be introducing the Community Bible Experience at their Harvest service on Sunday.
This will be happening in November and will be an opportunity for people to meet in book groups to read the New Testament in a different format from normal. Flemington Hallside Church’s women’s guild meets every Wednesday at 7pm. Stonelaw Church’s Cafe @ The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
Tea and coffee are available, along with home baking and a second-hand book stall.
Stonelaw is having monthly 30-minute services for those who struggle to attend on Sunday.
The church’s Tuesday Chat group meet every fortnight at 7.30pm. A cabaret night will be held in St Columbkille’s Hall this Saturday, with money going towards Kilbryde Hospice and the fund for the ordination of Charles Coyle.
An understanding bereavement workshop will take place in St Columbkille’s Hall on Saturday October 13 on the first floor from 10.30am until 3.15pm.
Email stcolumbkille@ btconnect.com for more details. King’s Park Church’s lunch club has now resumed, along with a regular programme of events. Croftfoot Parish Church hold their Refresh classes every Friday, from 2pm until 4pm.
It is a chance to enjoy a cuppa and a chat, as well as hand massage, games of pool, spiritual reading, and confidential prayer, including healing.
There is no cost and all are welcome to attend. Croftfoot United Free Church hosts T in The Croft every Friday from 10am-noon.
It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month, 11.30am -1.30pm.
Entry is £1.50. Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon.
The Tuesday Club meets in the Hamilton Road hall. Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday between noon and 2pm for a period of reflection.
There is also the opportunity to enjoy fellowship over tea/ coffee and biscuits.
Anyone is welcome to take in their lunch and join others in friendly chat. Castlemilk Parish Church hold community meals on the first and third Fridays of the month. St Oswald’s Episcopal Church in King’s Park has Kaleidoscope for children with autism and their families from 6.30pm until 8pm on Monday.
On Tuesday there is community yoga, with entry costing £3 and lasting from 7pm until 8pm. Wednesday sees prayer space at 10am. On Thursday there is soup and space to be still from 6.30pm until 8pm. St Cadoc’s are short of altar servers, especially for Sunday 10am Mass. They are appealing to parents to encourage their children to get involved.
Anyone who would like to become an altar server can speak to Fr Cirilo after one of the weekend Masses. The Divine Mercy prayer group meet on Thursday evenings at St Anthony’s from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. The Fitness Follies keep fit group at Fernhill and Cathkin Church meets every Wednesday at 10.30am.
On Thursday at 10am the Knitting and Nattering group meets in the session room. St Bride’s Church’s new Eat Up initiative takes place every Wednesday, from noon onwards.
It offers the chance to have a hot meal and chat to other people.
The church are currently looking at establishing an Instagram and Twitter account. Rutherglen’s Salvation Army has a host of events going on, including toddler groups.
