Delighted coach Jamie loves a trier
Cambus boss praises squad’s strength in depth
Cambuslang coach Jamie Seery hailed his squad’s strength in depth after they dramatically beat Stewartry.
Cambus trailed at the break, but rallied in the second half, with their try scorers being Alec Bean, Gavin Bannerman, David Bolton and Chad McGlame, before Greg Morrison won it at the death.
It was the second week running Cambus won it late on, and the variety of try scorers was praised by Jamie, especially as the team were missing key men in the shape of No 10 Euan Jones and full back Louis Senter.
Jamie said: “We’re delighted it’s not just one or two players who are scoring the points.
“One strength as a team is that we have plenty of players with the ability to score, and we just need to keep building a platform for them to have that opportunity.
“One big positive was that we were missing Euan and Louis and to come away with the win was really great. Other players stepped up and we all performed well.” Cambuslang were given a huge help by their dominant scrum, who repeatedly won possession during the game.
It was the scrum’s efforts that forced a late turnover which led to Morrison crashing over to win the game, a victory that moved Cambuslang to third in the table.
Jamie added: “The scrum has definitely improved this season and the guys are now getting plenty of ball to play with, because they’re dominating. We certainly wouldn’t have done that last season.”
However, one concern is the amount of points the Coats Park side are conceding, and Jamie hopes they improve on that ahead of Saturday’s tough test against Allan Glens.
He added: “A lot of that is through penalties against us. We need to be a bit more disciplined in defence – we can be aggressive in defence but slip up a bit and make it too easy for teams to come at us.
“We know we’re more than capable of scoring against any team, we just need to tighten up defensively.
“Allan Glens are a good team, probably the best we’ve played, but we can get all five points. We’ll have Euan and Louis back, and we know we can score points against anyone at the moment.”
