Supermodel promotes eco fashion

Spotlight on recycling

- Staff reporter

International supermodel Eunice Olumide MBE visited Rutherglen to support a project that is at the heart of everything she stands for.

Eunice - an eco warrior and Zero Waste ambassador - made a guest appearance at R:evolve Recycle #NoTags Fashion Show in Rutherglen.

And the beauty was later snapped wearing a striking vintage blue leather outfit that she had swapped at the R:evolve Clothing swap shop on Main Street.

Eunice hosted the industrial style urban fashion show in the ‘Bike Town’ part of Healthy ‘n’ Happy, at which all of the items modelled were preowned.

Said Eunice: “For me, supporting R:evolve Recycle is at the heart of everything that I stand for. Fashion and the industry should take far more responsibility to ensure that we are ethical and protect the environment.

“It’s a true honour and I hope that I can use my profile to draw attention to this incredible organisation.”

The event highlighted the creativity and sustainability of the awardwinning R:evolve Recycle project, which was recently granted a third round of funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.

Project manager Wendy Russell explained: “The aim of the #NoTags fashion show was to spark interest in our project and encourage Lanarkshire’s young people to get involved.

“Studies have shown that millennials are engaging with climate changing behaviours and see sustainability and ethical fashion as major priorities for our future.

“We hope that by hosting an annual event like #NOTAGS we will spark interest in sustainable fashion and bring the younger generations through our doors at R:evolve Clothing.”

The fashion parade showcased the incredible clothing that has been donated into the project’s swap shops, as well as working in partnership with a number of local groups.

Eunice has been a great ambassador for the R:evolve Recycle project, having worked on a number of projects including Zero Waste Scotland’s ‘Empty Store’ in the St Enoch Centre, where people donate all the stock for others to then swap.

Eunice attended a starspangled event at the Ritz in London wearing an outfit she had modelled at this year’s #NoTags event.

“It’s just fantastic working with a true professional like Eunice,” continued Wendy.

“For such a worldrenowned supermodel, she is such a joy to work with as she is so warm and engaging and really takes her time to get to know the project and our young models, not to mention raising R:evolve Recycle’s profile across the country through social media.

“We have a lot of big plans in the future with Eunice and hopefully will bring a bit of red carpet glamour to the streets of Rutherglen.”

R :evolve Clothing Swap Shop boutique is open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm, where you can bring in your old unwanted clothing and accessories and swap them free of charge to help clothes remain in circulation longer and reduce the amount of items they buy.
